Ronni Ancona supports Aimee Lou Wood as she opens up on Big Impression 'regret'  (2025)

Comedian Ronni Ancona has opened up about her past celebrity impersonations during her time on the 00’s show Big Impression in support of Sex Education and White Lotus star Aimee Lou Wood

Comedian Ronni Ancona has detailed one of her regrets when reflecting on her time working on Big Impression.

During Tuesday's (April 15) edition of BBC Breakfast, the 56-year-old spoke to presenters Jon Kay and Sally Nugent.

Ronni was discussing a recent Saturday Night Live sketch, which mocked the physical appearance of Sex Education and White Lotus star Aimee Lou Wood. The actress playing Aimee in the sketch had fake teeth and a pronounced accent.

Since then, Aimee has spoken out about the sketch, calling it mean and unfunny. Curious to get Ronni's thoughts on the matter, following the success of her show Big Impression which poked fun at celebrities, the comedian gave her support.

Sally said: "Over the years, you have done lots of impressions of lots of different people. At times, that would be a caricature of what they look like, perhaps what they sound like. I just wonder what you make of the Aimee Lou Wood sketch?"

Ronnie said: "Full disclaimer, I think she's amazing, I think she's unbelievably talented. Very funny and very talented and very beautiful actually. I do have an element of sympathy with her, I think if you watch the whole sketch , which I have.

"All the elements are political satire, then Aimee Lou isn't, it's the only element where it's not about a politician."

Ronnie highlighted she understood the writers were most likely trying to get a link between Robert F. Kennedy Jr's 'obsession' with taking fluoride out of water and teeth.

She added: "It was a bit of a cheap shot, really, because she's quite right. I'm no dentist, but I don't think fluoride changes the shape of your teeth. I think she's got beautiful teeth.

"I think she was the victim of that old archetype, a very tired trope that British all have bad teeth, which I think we're all rather tired of."

The BBC hosts then looked at some of Ronnie's old sketches in Big Impression and were curious to see whether she'd still do some of them in the modern day.

An old clip was shown of Ronnie impersonating Victoria Beckham as Sally asked: "Do you think you would do that today? Would that stand the test of time?"

She replied: "Funny enough, I regret some of the- I mean Victoria Becham. Listen, we sort of caught the zeitgeist right in the beginning of this big celebrity culture that was emerging."

Ronnie explained to Jon and Sally that she'd be imagining what Victoria would be saying at home with David Beckham.

She added: "You wouldn't be able to do that these days because of the advent of social media, everybody knows what everybody is going all the time!" That's what makes parody and satire very difficult to do these days."

The comedian said there are elements of things in the sketch she was cautious of including and didn't mention her physical appearance.
